Gerber has been designing and producing highly regarded knives since 1939. In recent years Gerber has expanded its product lines to include lights, tools and other rugged outdoor gear. Innovative design, quality craftsmanship and exception value make Gerber's knives worth taking a look at.
The Gerber LMF 2 line of knives were designed to excel in the worst possible conditions and be versatile in every day, as well as in hunting situations. Owners in general all seem to have one thing in common when it comes to the Gerber LMF 2 line of knives...they simple seem to love it.
There are three models of Gerber LMF 2 knives:
The LMF 2 Model I
Available in three colors: brown, green and black, this knife is the size and general design as its brothers, the S and ASEK. The LMF 2 I seems to be the least popular of the line. This may be due to its price point being roughly the same as the S model, which comes with some upgraded features.
LMF 2 Model S
Available in only one color: coyote brown, the Gerber LMF 2 S looks identical to the I Model of the same color. A flame resistant knife holder also ships with the Model S as does a built-in knife sharpener and a safety knife.
ASEK
Available in only one color, foliage green, the ASEK seems to have a bit of mystery surrounding it. Rumors about the features of this knife have caused a bit of a stir. Many caution that some online retailers are mistakenly selling the Model S when ASEKs are being advertised.
In my research, I have found what seem to be genuine versions of the ASEK. They generally sell for over 0 (street price) where the LMF 2 Model S and Model I cost around .
At the time of this writing the availability of the ASEK also appears to be limited.
Gerber specs list a true LMF 2 ASEK as only coming in green and includes a strap cutter and a safety knife. I would recommend that you confirm these specs before purchasing an ASEK.
Another Great Feature
Three holes on every LMF II knife handle make it easy to lash it to a branch, stick, belt or bag.
Conclusion
High marks seem to be the "norm" from Gerber LMF 2 knife owners. Comments like "Best knife I ever owned...Rugged...Tough" and "Great Craftsmanship" are also common in owner reviews.
